‘Venice to Hamburg’ reviewed on MusicWeb International
Johan van Veen reviewed our CD ‘Venice to Hamburg’ for the MusicWeb International website
After a discussion of the music, he writes:
This programme is a most interesting and revealing documentation of the changes in instrumental composing during the 17th century. The booklet includes an informative essay by Gawain Glenton with an overview of the developments in musical style and some specifics about the composers and the pieces chosen for this recording. These offer the instrumentalists plenty opportunities to show their skills, and these are impressive. Technically the playing is flawless, and there are some outstanding solos of every one of them. Add to that an impeccable ensemble and one understands that this disc deserves a place in any collection of 17th-century music. Silas Wollston delivers fine interpretations of the two keyboard pieces.
